Pamoja was founded by Daniel D. Miller, an institutional leader, investor, and systems builder who has spent more than two decades helping complex organizations make decisions across many stakeholders.

Daniel came to Pamoja as an investor studying African logistics and trade infrastructure. He set out to identify logistics companies worth backing and found a deeper problem: the companies moving goods were not short on trucks, ports, customs systems, ERPs, or software tools. They were short on coordination. The work between systems, companies, documents, approvals, handoffs, and payments was still being held together by WhatsApp, email, spreadsheets, phone calls, and human memory.

He confirmed that pattern with freight forwarders, customs brokers, terminal managers, shippers, and operators. Each party understood its own piece of the shipment. No one owned the whole flow.

Daniel’s background is not conventional logistics. That is the point. Pamoja is not another freight forwarding system, customs platform, terminal system, or dashboard. It is the neutral operating layer above them.

As Deputy Executive Director of the New York City Board of Education Retirement System, Daniel helps oversee a public pension system with more than $10 billion in assets. That work requires governance, risk evaluation, capital allocation, operational accountability, and multi-party decision-making. His work in African investment and infrastructure showed him the same coordination gap in physical form: infrastructure underperforms when the businesses using it remain disconnected.
